How do I transfer to make it MP4?

Like regular video files and transfer them into MP4 format so I can put it on my iPod?

You must make sure the video is mp4 format for iPod. If not, you may try some third party software such as Cucusoft DVD to iPod Video Suite to convert DVD movie and convert videos in any format to iPod. It is the fastest converter I have used.
